Preparation ~ The Days Before Samhain Build Your Ancestor AltarBeginning several days before, assemble an ancestor altar on a table or shelf:~ Photographs of deceased loved ones you wish to honor~ Objects that belonged to them or represent them~ Their favourite foods or drinks in small dishes~ Candles in their memory (white for recently deceased, black for the deep ancestors)~ Flowers ~ particularly marigolds or chrysanthemums (traditional death flowers)~ A cup of water (the dead are said to be thirsty)This altar is kept lit in the evenings leading up to Samhain.
